On a recent site visit to an Aerospace client the full range of current technology at Martin's came into play.

The aim was to help our client further improve their product consistency on their highly specialised Investment Casting processes, and line manangers had requested a redesign of an existing protective cover to improve handling and reduce contamination potential. Having reviewed the design and process on site in the morning, we were able to email a provisional redesign via Solidworks eDrawings in the afternoon for the client to evaluate. After subsequent approval, our Toolroom staff immediately translated the 3D model into an animated mould tool design to test the operation of the tool with our production staff, and once refined, transferred the models into our Alphacam machining software to generate the strategies and programs required.

The resulting parts assembled right first time into a production tool, which our rubber mouldshop staff then set up in the relevant injection moulding machine to run off a trial batch of parts for the client to evaluate.

This was a good example of how the various capabilities at Martin's can offer a unique service, particularly since the initial contact with tis client was to resolve a hydraulic sealing problem on their Wax Injection machines, which our sealing products staff undertook and developed a CNC machined solution which outlasts the OEM seal kit life many times over!
