Although renewable energy is becoming more prominent as the concern over depleting oil reserves increases, it is not a new industry to Martin’s and we have been supplying areas of this sector for a number of years.

Key areas of supply include the wind energy market, providing consumable parts such as machined rubber seals, rubber o rings, foam rubber gaskets, rubber sheeting and rubber washers.

Sea based renewable energy sources are also an area of current investigation, and as industrial rubber manufacturers, Martin’s are in the forefront of supply into research and development establishments looking at the emerging technologies which may provide significant contributions to future energy requirements.

We are also involved in development projects by way of energy preservation and new solutions in the motorsport and automotive power industry.

A further element of our work on Renewables has been our ongoing involvement as a member of a consortium alongside RAPRA and other prominent industry specialists to find an alternative to landfill for the large amount of waste rubber produced, largely by the tyre manufacturing industry; the research is being conducted as part of a Technology Strategy Board initiative; we are some way toward a method of de-vulcanising cured rubber for re-moulding.
