Bespoke and specialist products for the Leisure and Hobby Industries.
Martin's Rubber began as a retail shop supplying Macintosh and Dunlop products to people travelling on the ships from Southampton Docks, and inherently therefore began life supplying largely to the leisure and marine industries, albeit with products that were perhaps a necessity at that time. Although now in somewhat different fields as rubber manufacturers, we still supply across a range of applications into the leisure industry, as elastomers such as rubber and polyurethane have the basic properties often required in order to fulfil both the aesthetic and practical requirements of these markets.
Our supply into the leisure and hobbies industry tends to be either for niche luxury products, or replica/restoration projects.
Typical customers in this field include inventors, gyms & health clubs, museums & galleries, the pet industry, luxury yachts, theme parks, playgrounds, furniture & entertainment, sound & acoustic specialists, and model makers.
Requirements tend to be either bespoke and therefore developed in partnership with the designer or manufacturer, or, a standard stock item such as rubber sheeting, which we keep on the shelf. Examples of projects we have worked on in this arena include: specially machined rubber o rings for F1 trophies, the feet of Her Majesty's bed on the Royal Yacht Britannia, seals for the squirrel machines in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film production, leg braces for racing horses, light seals for the Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth's Gunwharf, a rubber casing for Prince Philip's fishing rod, matting for HM Treasury, tyres and drive belts for model cars, a bespoke plug for the ancient Church Font at Florence Nightingale's resting place, and covered rollers for the amusement rides at Paulton's Park. We have also manufactured polyurethane foam seating squabs for amusement rides, protective foam ball ends for children’s play equipment, rubber feet for toy ducks, and drive rubbers for shotgun clay trap machines.
