Guide and Wear Rings

The function of a guide or wear ring is to interface between the moving parts of an assembly and withstand lateral loads in such a way as to prevent metal to metal contact. Precision control is important to allow the sealing elements to function as they are intended to, and preserve the condition of the sealing surfaces. The greater the forces anticipated, the more substantial the guide rings must be. Consideration needs to be given to the environment expected, and the friction losses acceptable.
