Rotary Seals
Rotary Shaft Seals are available in a range of sizes and styles
The function of a rotary shaft seal is to contain lubricants behind the seal in order to ensure long life of the bearings that support the shaft while it rotates. In addition, a degree of wiping action is required to prevent dust and dirt entering the bearing. They should not be confused with linear shaft seals which look similar, but have a different profile and wiping action to work correctly in the opposite axis to a rotating shaft. Single acting and Double lip versions are available, and consideration needs to be given to the environment expected, the friction losses acceptable, and whether energisation is necessary.
