Wipers and Scrapers

The function of a wiper or scraper seal is to prevent dust, debris and moisture entering the pressure seals of a fluid system as reciprocating or rotating parts move. Damage to rods and cylinders and the seals that operate on them usually starts from a failed or inappropriate wiper seal. Consideration needs to be given to the environment expected, the friction losses acceptable, and whether energisation is necessary.
