A History of Quality at Martin's Rubber.
Ever since the company began its activities as rubber manufacturers in the nineteenth century, Martin's Rubber has established and maintained an enviable record for Quality and Service. In the early years our reputation was our guarantee of quality, and this lead to us being asked to supply high specification components for projects such as Sir Henry Segrave's Land and Water World Speed Record attempts in the 1920's, various Supermarine projects including the Spitfire, and Naval projects within the nearby Portsmouth Dockyard.
Our first formal Approvals were indeed for supply to the UK Military, with the company appearing on Admiralty and Air Ministry rubber products supplier listings from the 1940’s onwards, and we maintained these approvals for many years, until the more general commercial Approvals such as BS5750 began to become the accepted norm in the 1980’s. The development of our internal processes with the introduction of our bespoke IT systems in the early 1990’s provided the opportunity to integrate BS5750 (which later became ISO9000) within our structure, and the company gained formal approval to ISO 9002:1994 with BSI as our assessment body in 1997. We have maintained our approvals through the various enhancements to the standard and we were one of the first in our industry to be assessed and approved to the latest ISO9001:2008
The company still maintains a strong presence in the Defence and Aerospace field, and as such we have specific approvals for direct supply to Tier 1 Customers such as Finmeccia Augusta Westland (Supplier Code V40626), Rolls Royce and BAE Systems. With excellent relationships with key customers in high performance industries such as F1 where a track record of product and service excellence is essential, our ongoing commitment to ever improving our systems and procedures is clear.
To this end, our Company Mission Statement and Quality Policy have the core principle of :-
“Meeting and exceeding our Customers Expectations”
and our Quality systems and Approvals are the independently verified means by which we constantly test our success in meeting this overarching principle.
