Adhesives Expertise

Our Adhesives Stockholding facility offers a wide range of materials, to allow us to provide solutions for bonding a vast range of rubber products in small to medium volume for a huge range of industries. When using any form of Adhesive it is vital to prepare the surfaces involved in line with manufacturers recommendations, otherwise results can be inconsistent.

CONTACT ADHESIVES

Contact Adhesives are the traditional option for bonding rubber sheeting and rubber extrusions to itself and substrates, since they are essentially a suspension of rubber in a solvent base, and the joint remains flexible when it is cured off. Once the adhesive is applied to the surfaces requiring bonding, the solvent evaporates leaving a tacky, energised layer of rubber adhesive which is ready to bond to its mating, similarly prepared, surface as soon as contact is made. Various systems are available depending on the service conditions and host materials involved, see our catalogue for details.

CYANOACRYLATES

These adhesives came into general use in the 1980’s, known as “superglue” and when used correctly, are extremely effective. However they do break down over time when exposed to water, so assessing the application is extremely important in determining the correct product for the solution required. The joint created will be rigid due to the nature of the adhesive, so it is ideal for bonding to rigid substrates, but potentially less suitable where flexibility of the assembly is required. Grades are available with faster or slower cure times, gap filling properties and colours added, see our catalogue for details.
