It might be sealing a liquid or gas, and it might also need to provide additional benefits such as thermal or electrical insulation or conductivity. For complex geometries or to seal gaps which are not on one plane, a moulded gasket is often the only solution which offers a one-piece fully formed gasket to fit. A moulded gasket is repeatable, whilst the lack of joins, splits and fabrication means that it is has more integrity and is likely to provide a better seal than other manufacturing methods.
It is also possible to bond the gasket to one (or both) of the substrate faces; for more information on bonding rubber to metals, composites and plastics, please see our rubber bondings page.
